Manufacturing Expo Draws 3,000 Students, Teachers [June 2008] Over three days, almost 30 manufacturers from around the state met with thousands of students all under one roof. Their mission? To get a new generation interested in manufacturing careers. Manufacture Your Future, a career expo designed to attract young people to manufacturing, was held June 3–5, 2008, at the Connecticut Expo Center in Hartford. Conn. Tech Schools Adopt NIMS Standards
At the urging of CBIA member companies, 16 techical high schools with manufacturing technology programs have agreed to align their curricula to the current industry standard. Thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation, CBIA’s Education Foundation is helping them deliver. [More]

Lean Manufacturing Courses Get Underway [Sept. 2008] CBIA and the Connecticut Community College System have teamed up to develop two 90-hour, six-credit certificate programs in lean manufacturing and supply chain management, offering students a set of highly marketable skills in today’s workplace. Those who complete the training will not only be eligible for 12 college credits but will also bring a virtual toolroom of lean principles and supply chain management skills back to their workplace.
