2026 By the Numbers: Tracking Connecticut’s Economic Competitiveness

In 2025, the CBIA Foundation for Economic Growth & Opportunity launched By the Numbers: Tracking Connecticut’s Economic Competitiveness with a simple goal—establish clear economic competitiveness benchmarks.
Understanding where we stand relative to other states is essential to identifying both our strengths and the challenges that threaten future growth.
One year later, the question is no longer where Connecticut ranks, but whether we are moving in the right direction, given that sustained economic competitiveness remains an uphill struggle.
This updated edition of By the Numbers—made possible through the support of the Connecticut Business Roundtable, Connecticut Green Bank, and NDC Commercial Construction—tracks how key indicators changed over the last year, highlighting areas where Connecticut made progress, areas where other states continue to outpace us, and emerging trends that warrant closer attention.
Competitiveness is not measured by a single statistic, but by a state’s ability to improve over time while creating opportunities for employers and residents alike.
