The Cigna Group Foundation is making a $1.5 million investment to improve access to healthcare in Greater Hartford.

The foundation, The Cigna Group’s philanthropic arm, is awarding grants to six nonprofits for community-led efforts to expand access to care through mobile clinics, transportation to health visits, care navigation and wellness programs.

“Our roots in Connecticut run deep, as does our commitment to the communities where our colleagues live and work,” said foundation president and senior director of community programs Sara Quist.

“Through this investment, we’re helping local organizations turn that commitment into practical support for Greater Hartford residents.”

Projects range from transportation and mobile health services to care navigation and language assistance.

They also connect residents with resources addressing food, housing, behavioral health, and other needs.

Community Impact

In total, the foundation expects to reach more than 2,000 residents over the next two years. The recipients are:

  • Chrysalis Center, Inc.
  • Hartford Public Library
  • InterCommunity, Inc.
  • Malta House of Care, Inc.
  • University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc.
  • Wheeler Clinic, Inc.

The foundation said the grants build on investments made since 2024 through its Health Equity Impact Fund.

For example, Hartford Public Library is using the funding to expand its Health on the Go program, providing residents with transportation, wellness activities, and bilingual assistance to understand and use their health benefits.

“When my primary care provider recommended this program, it was like seeing the light again,” said Angel, a program participant.

“It took a large weight off of our shoulders.”

The $1.5 million investment reflects The Cigna Group Foundation’s work with local nonprofits to remove barriers to care and improve health outcomes in Greater Hartford.
