Avelo Airlines Expands Service to Bradley International

Avelo Airlines announced its largest ever expansion July 24, including new service out of Bradley International Airport.
With the expansion, Avelo will add seven new nonstop routes from Connecticut, including the airline’s first two international destinations.
Avelo will offer international flights from Bradley to Cancun, Mexico and Montego Bay, Jamaica starting Nov. 7.
Avelo will also offer flights from Bradley to Charlotte, NC, Daytona Beach, Houston, Lakeland, FL, and Wilmington, NC beginning in November.
Avelo already has a base of operations at Tweed-New Haven Airport.
Growth
“The expansion we are announcing today is the most substantial in our airline’s three-year history,” said Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy.
“It’s extending our service offerings to another part of the state, where it will be much more convenient to certain people.”
To support the expansion, the airline will initially position two planes at Bradley.
Levy said Avelo will create about 80 new jobs in Connecticut including pilots, flight attendants, ground services, and customer support.
The airline already employs more than 250 people in the state.
“Adding more airplanes and destinations, I am very excited about the momentum and growth we are seeing across our business,” Levy said.
Direct Impact
Speaking at a news conference announcing the expansion, House Speaker Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) called the new service important for the state’s businesses.
“When businesses look here, they look at direct flights,” Ritter said. “There is an intersection both from a business perspective, a cultural significance, having direct flights to places.”
“Airports are our gateway to the nation and our gateway to the world,” added Gov. Ned Lamont, crediting Avelo with expanding the number of international and domestic flights in and out of Connecticut.
Avelo has flown more than five million passengers on more than 40,000 flights, including over two million passengers in and out of Tweed.
In all, the airline is adding 18 new nonstop routes from destinations across the country.
With the new routes, Avelo serves 52 destinations in 23 states, Puerto Rico, and two international markets—Jamaica and Mexico.
Since launching in 2021, Avelo has flown more than five million passengers on more than 40,000 flights, including over two million passengers in and out of Tweed.
