Republicans Hold Greenwich House Seat

Connecticut Republicans retained the 151st state House seat in a special election held Jan. 21.

Republican Harry Arora defeated Democrat Cheryl Moss 2,345 votes to 1,965, taking 54% of the vote.

Arora, who comes from a career in financial services and energy trading, succeeds GOP incumbent Fred Camillo. 

Camillo held the seat since 2009, but resigned Dec. 2 following his election as Greenwich first selectman.

This is Arora’s first win as an elected official, following an unsuccessful 2018 challenge against U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, a Democrat.

Arora’s election means Republicans will hold 60 seats to the Democrats’ 91 seats when the 2020 state legislative session convenes Feb. 5.

Along with every state House and Senate seat, Arora’s seat will be up for reelection again this November.

Tuesday’s special election was the third held this month, with Democrats and Republicans splitting the other two races.
