Behind the Business: Sweet Home Connecticut
A college education in information technology is not a time commitment Remi Ball can make, at least for now.
But the young mother has found a way to support her family in a career she loves, thanks to a fast-track training program and a company that welcomed her with open arms.
Ball works full time as a help desk analyst at Global Help Desk Services, Inc.
“It’s my favorite job I’ve had so far,” Ball said.
An Alabama native, Ball moved to Connecticut in early 2020.
“I love Connecticut, however I will say that it’s very expensive to live here,” she said.
“I wish it was a little more cost-efficient, especially for single parents, young moms.”
STEAM Training
Ball enrolled in the STEAM Train fast track academy training program following a recommendation from a friend.
One of the first activities she did build a computer.
“After I did it, I said this is something I can definitely see myself doing,” she said. “It wasn’t anything I had ever done before.”
Now she’s hooked. She completed a six-month training course, interned at Global Help Desk Services, Inc., and was hired shortly after.
“I loved the challenge of it,” she said.
