Researchers at Mercer are exploring ways to help employers effectively strengthen employee wellbeing.

A new Gallup Poll found that 19% of workers saw themselves as having fair or poor mental health, which can result in unplanned days off.

Researchers said those employees will take an average 12 days of unplanned absences compared to 2.5 days for the rest of the workforce, costing employers $47.6 billion annually in lost productivity.

Traditionally, occupational health looked strictly in the context of the five OSHA Hazards: chemical/dust, ergonomic, physical, biological, and safety.

More recently, companies have come to realize that the health of the workforce also ties to the employees’ emotional wellbeing.

Many employers now make enhancing employee wellbeing in a holistic manner one of their top priorities.

Mercer, an internationally renowned consultancy on health topics, created a brief, five-to-eight-minute survey to provide employers with information to address this issue.

Participants will receive a free copy of the summary when it is complete.
