Must Employers Give Time Off to Vote?

With Election Day right around the corner, many employers may wonder whether they have to give employees time off to vote. Some states do have laws that require employers to give paid or unpaid time off to vote, but Connecticut isn’t one of them. Nor is there any federal law requiring time off for voting. Nevertheless, many Connecticut employers do allow employees to take time off when they can’t get to the polls because of their working hours. (Polling places in the state are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.).
