April showers are bringing fall awareness campaigns back again this year.

The most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows 37% of construction fatalities are a result of employees falling from elevated structures.

OSHA is partnering with several organizations for a National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction from May 6 through May 10 this year.

It marks the 11th year of the event that now coincides with Construction Safety Week.

Employers are encouraged to #StandDown4Safety and pause construction activities on May 8 to discuss how to work safely at elevation.

National Emphasis

The ongoing number of reported falls prompted OSHA to create a national emphasis program last year.

Employers should be aware of increased enforcement during this time and are reminded to take advantage of OSHA’s outreach activities.

Compliance offers have been authorized to independently initiate inspections during their normal daily travel as part of the program.

Area and regional offices have also been putting together educational opportunities for businesses and workers.
