NJ Company Faces $1M Fall Hazards Penalty
A New Jersey contractor is facing $1 million in penalties for neglecting to rectify fall hazards.
OSHA initiated an inspection of Adrian Construction Group in 2023 under a local emphasis program for falls in construction.
OSHA investigators had cited the company five times for failure to provide workers with fall protection since 2016.
During the local emphasis program inspection, investigators cited the company for six willful violations for lack of fall and eye protection, and four serious violations for unsafe scaffolding and failure to provide hard hats for overhead hazards.
The company has also been added to the severe violators enforcement program.
Fall Hazards
OSHA has been especially vigilant when it comes to fall hazards.
More than 1,000 construction workers died on the job in 2022 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Nearly 400 of those fatalities related to falls from an elevated height.
While there is not a local emphasis program for falls in Region One, Connecticut employers should continue to be vigilant.
OSHA does have local emphasis programs for noise in the workplace, powered industrial trucks, cranes in construction, tree and landscape operations, and residential construction in Region One.
That means there is an increased likelihood of an OSHA inspector paying a visit to companies who fall in these categories.
