Q&A’s on Paid Sick Leave
In addition to convening two recent briefings attended by over 250 Connecticut HR professionals, CBIA’s telephone consultants have been busy with numerous daily inquiries about Connecticut’s new paid sick leave (PSL) law including:
- Who is covered
- What it requires
- How companies may coordinate existing PTO plans with the law’s mandates
We are regularly in touch with labor department staff to clarify the law’s requirements, and to convey problem areas experienced by businesses. Another resource we suggest may be of help is a Q&A guide prepared by Jackson Lewis, the management/workplace lawfirm with offices in Stamford and Hartford, as well as nationwide. The series of 28 questions and answers cover the basics of PSL, and attempts to answer some of the thornier questions arising under this poorly drafted law. Ultimately, we expect the Labor Commissioner to issue interpretative guidance on many aspects of the law that cannot be discerned from the statutory text alone.
CBIA is planning another paid sick leave briefing in September. Check cbia.com for details.
