R.I.P. 40-Hour Work Week
Survey reveals the traditional 9-to-5 work week is a distant memory
A recent survey by collaboration software and services firm PGi revealed that the traditional 40-hour, 9-to-5 work week is now a thing of the past for the vast majority of American workers. In addition, 77% of survey respondents said they take work home at least one day per week.
Key findings:
89% of survey respondents said they work more than 40 hours per week
71% said they work more than they prefer
63% eat lunch at their desks
61% commute more than 30 minutes each day, with nearly 25% clocking in at over an hour
60% rely on technology (e.g., calendar apps, project tools, intranets) to automate processes and increase productivity
17% increase productivity by reducing the number of meetings they attend
