A new CareerBuilder survey on "Emulating the Big Cheese" provides some fun insights about the habits and characteristics of those who work in the corner office. Survey results included (were based on) responses from more than 550 hiring managers in senior leadership positions (CEO, CFO, COO, Senior VP, etc.):
- When asked about typical office attire, a majority of those in senior management (63%) said they wear business attire to the office. Some (18%) noted jeans or shorts as typical workplace wear, while business suit was the least popular choice (14%).
- Navy blue (36%), black (26%), and brown (8%) fared as the most popular colors executives typically wear, while pink and red came in last at 1% or less.
- Comparing genders, female executives have a much higher tendency to wear black (51%), but are less likely to wear navy blue (21%).
- When it comes to driving to work, the big honchos like to drive the big cars: SUV (27%), mid-sized sedans (22%), luxury sedan (15%), pickup truck (9%), sports car/convertible (8%), minivan (5%).
- When asked what they drink at happy hours or company parties, 32% said they don't drink alcoholic beverages at company events. Among those who do partake, wine (26%) and beer (22%) lead as the drink of choice, followed by mixed drinks (18%). Twenty percent said they stay away from company happy hours.
- When asked about their typical workday lunch habits, most senior leaders (41%) said they brownbag their lunch, while 19% eat at a sit down restaurant, and 17% grab fast food. Twenty-three percent said they don't have lunch at all.
