Staffing Jobs Up Over Last Year
Staffing companies employed an average of 2.91 million temporary and contract workers per business day during the second quarter of 2012, about 150 million more than the nearly 2.8 million per day a year ago, according to data from the American Staffing Association (ASA).
This is the highest number of workers for the period since the second quarter of 2007, when the average daily employment was nearly 3.1 million. The 5.4% increase represents the 10th consecutive quarter of year-to-year staffing industry job growth since mid-2009.
As the economy slowly improves, businesses are turning to staffing firms for flexible work force solutions and access to qualified talent, says ASA. Even in the face of a stubborn job market, staffing firms continue to provide the way to work for millions of people each day.
Temporary and contract staffing sales in the second quarter were 8.9% higher year-to-year compared to the second quarter of last year.
