Connecticut workers may be taking more time away from work compared to the rest of the country in 2022, according to a new report by the U.S. Department of Labor.

OSHA published 2022 injury and illness data based on reports by more than 300,000 establishments across the country that submitted data through March 2, 2023.

Nationwide, employees averaged 65.3 days away from work compared to 76.5 days for Connecticut workers in 2022.

Connecticut’s average is also slightly higher than its 2021 data, which saw an average of 75.7 days away from work.

Workplace injuries in the state declined in 2022, down 2.37% over 2021 to 6,007, including eight fatalities.

Data Tracking

The injury tracking application data is part of OSHA’s electronic recordkeeping requirements for certain employers who were required to submit OSHA Form 300A information from Jan. 2 to March 2, 2023.

The agency believes access to this data will assist companies in identifying unsafe conditions and workplace hazards.

Electronic submissions are required for establishments with 250 or more employees currently required to keep OSHA injury and illness records

Nationwide, employees averaged 65.3 days away from work compared to 76.5 days for Connecticut workers.

Submissions are also required for establishments with 20 to 249 employees classified in specific industries with historically high rates of occupational injuries and illnesses.

By law, employers must record information about every work-related injury or illness that involves loss of consciousness, restricted work activity or job transfer, days away from work, or medical treatment beyond first aid.

Employers who missed the March 2 deadline can still submit Form 300A data through the app.

OSHA is working to establishments that failed to submit their 2022 Form 300A data.
