The Department of Social Services has launched a user-friendly web site that gives the agency’s 750,000 clients the ability to check on the status of their benefits online. It also offers residents a pre-screening tool to learn if they may be eligible for services.

The department's new site is the first step of its wide-ranging “ConneCT” modernization initiative that will bring 21st Century technology to an agency working to keep up with record demand for food and medical assistance.

Making state government work better and more cost-effectively is a critically important part of addressing the state’s short- and long-term budget challenges.

It’s also the way to inspire greater confidence in the state among Connecticut businesses.

Steps like the DSS’s website and modernization effort will help achieve those goals.
