Legislation aimed at strengthening support for Connecticut’s small businesses is moving forward at the state Capitol.

The Commerce Committee unanimously approved HB 5467, signaling strong bipartisan agreement on the need to improve how small businesses navigate state programs and resources.

This 2026 CBIA legislative priority legislation requires the Department of Economic and Community Development to designate a staff member within the Office of Small Business Affairs to serve as a small business concierge.

The concierge role is designed to help businesses better understand and access available state programs, grants, and technical assistance.

Current co-sponsors of the bill include Rep. Joe Gresko (D-Stratford), Rep. Michael Quinn (D-Meriden), and Rep. Kerry Wood (D-Rocky Hill), and Rep. John Santanella (D-Enfield).

CBIA has consistently emphasized the importance of streamlining interactions between state government and small businesses, particularly those that lack the time or capacity to navigate complex systems.

“Creating a clear point of contact within DECD is a practical step that can help businesses make better use of existing resources and support continued economic growth,” said CBIA senior policy director Pete Myers.
