Governor Ned Lamont has scheduled a May 7 special election in the 130th state House District to fill the seat of Democrat Rep. Ezequiel Santiago, who died unexpectedly earlier this month.
The district includes portions of Bridgeport.
The winner will serve the remainder of Santiago’s two-year term, which began Jan. 9 when the 2019 General Assembly session convened.
Santiago’s sudden passing March 15 shocked the Bridgeport community as well as the state Capitol.
Lamont previously scheduled an April 16 special election for the 19th House District, which includes portions of Avon, Farmington, and West Hartford.
That seat became vacant when Democratic incumbent Derek Slap won a special Feb. 25 election for the 5th state Senate District that includes all of West Hartford and Burlington, part of Farmington, and a sliver of Bloomfield.
To date, Republican Robert Margolis of Avon and Democrat Tammy Exum of West Hartford have filed to run for the 19th House seat.
Exum is a former member of the West Hartford Board of Education. Margolis is a political newcomer.
