$642M Contract Modification for Electric Boat

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $642 million contract modification supporting existing submarine production.
Announced Sept. 28, the cost-plus-fixed-fee modification is for lead yard support, development studies, and design efforts related to Virginia-class submarines.
“This contract modification supports our efforts to deliver the submarines our Navy needs as quickly as possible,” said Electric Boat president Mark Rayha.
“This funding allows us to continue our design and development efforts in order to sustain and extend our nation’s operational overmatch against any potential adversaries.
“With the support of the administration, the Navy and Congress, we are prepared to deliver the advantage to protect our sailors, our families and our freedom.”
According to the award notice, 94% of the work will be performed in Groton, with the balance spread across shipyards in McLeansville, North Carolina, Newport News, Virginia, and Quonset, Rhode Island>.
Electric Boat and partner Huntington-Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding have delivered 22 Virginia-class ships since 2004.
