Ulbrich Invests $9M in Wallingford Expansion

Wallingford-based Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals unveiled plans June 18 for a $9 million expansion, with planned investments in a facility addition and advanced manufacturing equipment.
The project includes construction of a new 14,500-square-foot building on the company’s Wallingford campus, along with investments in specialized equipment designed to enhance precision metal processing and manufacturing efficiency.
Company officials celebrated the announcement a groundbreaking ceremony featuring employees, community leaders, and business partners.
The expansion is expected to be completed by May 2027 and company officials say it will strengthen production capabilities and support long-term growth.
“We haven’t expanded our footprint in Wallingford since 2008, so we need some space,” board chair Chris Ulbrich said.
Global Reach
Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Connecticut, Ulbrich is a global supplier of precision-rolled stainless steel and specialty metal products serving industries such as aerospace, medical technology, automotive manufacturing, electronics, and energy.
The fourth-generation family owned company operates manufacturing and distribution facilities across North America, Europe, and Asia, and has continued to expand its footprint through both capital investments and acquisitions.
Ulbrich’s expansion comes at a time when manufacturers across several high-tech sectors are seeking increasingly specialized materials with tighter tolerances and enhanced performance characteristics.
The Wallingford expansion follows a series of strategic growth initiatives.
The additional space and equipment are expected to support future production requirements while allowing Ulbrich to maintain quality standards.
“This expands our product line. We will be able to do more products in more alloys, so this will only help us compete worldwide,” Ulbrich said.
The Wallingford expansion follows a series of strategic growth initiatives undertaken by the company in recent years.
In 2024, Ulbrich expanded its global capabilities through the acquisition of former ATI precision rolled strip operations in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and Remscheid, Germany.
