Amazon will cover full tuition costs for its frontline workers to pursue degree programs at the University of Connecticut and Capital Community College.

The two Connecticut schools are among 180 education providers nationwide participating in the company’s Career Choice program.

More than 750,000 hourly employees across the U.S. are eligible to have college tuition and other education and certification costs covered through the program.

In addition to funding associate and bachelor’s degrees, Amazon’s Career Choice also funds high school completion, GEDs, and ESL proficiency certifications.

“We’re committed to empowering our employees with easy access to the education and training they need to grow their careers, whether that’s with us or elsewhere,” said Alicia Boler Davis, senior vice president of global customer fulfillment.

“We’re thrilled today to be adding more education partners to our Career Choice program, which we hope will give our team access to the educational paths that fit their passions.”

Addressing Challenges

CBIA’s Chris DiPentima welcomed the expansion of Amazon’s Career Choice program, calling it “another great example of a company stepping up with solutions for addressing the skills shortage and expanding career opportunities.”

“Addressing our workforce challenges requires broad collaboration and cooperation across the private and public sectors,” DiPentima said.

“Programs like this are part of the solution and I applaud the commitment Amazon is making.”
