Small businesses in Norwalk may be eligible for COVID-19 small business grants from the city this spring. 

City officials opened the final phase of the COVID-19 small business grant program Jan. 30. 

The city committed to $375,000 in funding for dozens of businesses adversely impacted by the pandemic. 

The funding is part of the city’s $8.7 million commitment to economic and community development. 

“We are incredibly proud of our robust and vibrant business community and want them to thrive here in Norwalk,” Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling said. 

“While this is the last phase of our COVID-19 small business grant program, the city’s support doesn’t end here.”

The city has granted $520,000 to nearly 70 local businesses since the start of the pandemic. More than 75% were women or minority-owned businesses.

City officials said there are a minimum of 50 grants available for businesses who employ 20 or fewer people as part of the program.

Guidelines 

Applicants must be a for-profit business within the city and in operation as of March 15, 2020. 

Available grants range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the number of people employed.

The city plans to award at least 31 grants to businesses with two to five employees, 13 to businesses with six to 15 employees, and six to businesses with 16 to 20 employees.. 

Within each grant category, 10 grants of $5,000, four grants of $10,000, and two grants of $15,000 will be reserved for women and minority-owned businesses.

Businesses can submit applications to the city’s Department of Economic and Community Development office through Feb. 17, 2023.
