Shipman & Goodwin Opens Boston Office

Connecticut’s largest law firm has opened a new office in Boston and added 17 new attorneys to its team.
On Nov. 6, Shipman & Goodwin announced that the new attorneys and 15 professional staff members from the Boston-based law firm Tarlow Breed Hart & Rodgers, P.C. joined Shipman on the fifth floor of the Prudential Center.
Founded in 1919, Shipman & Goodwin is a full-service law firm with more than 160 attorneys in Connecticut and New York, and now Boston.
According to the Hartford Business Journal’s 2025 Book of Lists, Shipman is Connecticut’s largest law firm.
In its announcement, Shipman said the new 10,000-square-foot Boston office will significantly expand its footprint in Massachusetts and strengthen its position in the Northeast.
“This expansion deepens our capabilities in key practice areas.”

“Bringing this team of talented lawyers and professionals into the Shipman family is a natural next step in our strategic growth,” said managing partner Leander Dolphin.
“This expansion deepens our capabilities in key practice areas, expands our geographic footprint in the Northeast, and most importantly, enhances the value we deliver to clients daily.”
The expansion also enables Shipman to provide an even broader suite of services for clients, particularly in trusts and estates, corporate law, real estate and family business.
“Joining Shipman allows us to continue serving our clients with the same dedication and personal attention they have always expected,” said Melissa Sydney, who will serve as Shipman’s Boston office co-managing partner.
She said it will also offer clients “access to greater resources, broader practice areas and expanded geographic reach throughout the New England region and nationally.”
