Greater Hartford Reentry Job Fair Set for April 7

With unemployment hovering near record lows, employers in search of talent are looking to new sources, including hiring the formerly incarcerated.

The 2020 Greater Hartford Reentry Job Fair is seeking employers who want to be connected with returning citizens looking for jobs.

The fair is set for April 7 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Chrysalis Training & Conference Center, 255 Homestead Ave., Hartford. The invitation-only event is free to employers.

Hiring a job applicant returning to the workforce after being incarcerated is an economic opportunity—for the employer and the applicant, said Mark Soycher, CBIA’s human resource counsel.

It’s also a moral imperative, Soycher said.

“I’ve come to believe that hiring people with a record may be a better path in many cases and a better bet for success,” he said.

New Haven’s Jermaine Burke is a prime example of a returning citizen who took advantage of training while incarcerated, leading to a successful career as a machinist at Balding Precision in Milford.

Returning citizens attending the Greater Hartford Reentry Job Fair are qualified, prepared, have certifications, and an eagerness to work.
