Connecticut businesses, nonprofits, and residents impacted by September flooding can now apply for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans.

The SBA approved a disaster declaration this week covering Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties following a request by Gov. Ned Lamont.

Lamont made the request in response to the Sept. 13 flash flooding that caused widespread damage to businesses and homes in those counties.

Business owners can borrow up to $2 million to replace real property, inventory, machinery, equipment, and other physical losses.

Applications for physical damage loans are due by Dec. 1, 2026.

Businesses and nonprofits can also apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million, which provide working capital.

Homeowners can borrow up to $500,000 to repair a primary residence, while homeowners and renters can seek up to $100,000 for damaged or destroyed personal property.

Application deadlines differ by loan type.

Applications for physical damage loans are due by Dec. 1, 2026, and economic injury applications are due July 2, 2027.

A temporary, in-person SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center opened Oct. 7 at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center, 999 Broad Street, in Bridgeport.

That center will close Oct. 21. Inquires can also be made through email or by calling 800.659.2955.
