Each month, we profile a Connecticut small business, showcasing the ingenuity and innovation driving the state’s economy. For April, we spoke with Park City Packaging Inc.

When was your company founded?

1953

How many employees work for your company?

47

Who are your customers?

Our customers are government prime contractors, aerospace companies, and businesses that need specialized packaging services.

What makes your company unique?

We are one of very few companies to combine the full suite of compliance packaging services under one roof.

We offer our customers military compliance packaging and labeling, custom corrugated containers, wood crates, clean room packaging, and packaging engineering services.

Our broad skill set allows our customers to avoid being bogged down by multiple vendors.

What is a fun fact about your business or its history?

Park City Packaging is a third generation, family-owned business.

Why did you choose Connecticut?

Connecticut has done a remarkable job building and maintaining an advanced manufacturing sector.

The state’s geography, between New York and Boston, and surrounded by a robust transportation infrastructure, has helped Park City Packaging remain competitive through our history.

Our company has been headquartered in Stratford for the last 70 years, and we are excited about remaining here for decades to come.

What is the greatest advantage to operating in Connecticut?

Connecticut has a proud defense industry. It is a testament to the strength of the state and its labor force that so many world-class companies call Connecticut home.

High quality of life and an abundance of local colleges and universities further contribute to the high caliber of the state’s workforce.

How do you try to give back to your community?

Everything we do at Park City Packaging is in an effort to help our nation’s warfighters be well equipped to do the job asked of them.

We work tirelessly to ensure that every item packed and shipped by Park City is received by our service men and women in proper condition, ready to help them carry out their mission.

Where do you see your company in five years? Ten years?

Park City is currently in the process of updating many of our capital assets and increasing investment in our digital infrastructure.

This multi-year process will help us to remain competitive through and beyond 2030.

What is the main thing policymakers could implement to make your company more competitive?

Expanding grant opportunities available to manufacturing companies for training and education would be huge.

We were fortunate to receive a small business grant for an equipment-related acquisition last year, but frequently have difficulty filling skilled machine operator and assembly roles.

The ability to hire a worker and invest in them through training and education adds value to both stakeholders.
