ReadyCT Internship Program Welcomes Businesses

ReadyCT is looking for businesses to host high school students as interns this summer, growing the workforce pipeline in Connecticut. The CBIA affiliate hosted an informational event Jan. 18 so companies could learn about the experience and hear from past interns and hosts.

“The internship element of [the program] is not only good for the business, but obviously rewards the hardworking individual students who are trying to find their place in the community, trying to find their place in the workforce,” said CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima. Interested businesses should send job descriptions to ReadyCT. Current programs are geared towards businesses in the greater Hartford area. “They will contribute, you’ll see the impact of their work, and they will definitely be an added asset that benefits your organization,” said Dave Smith, Stanley Black & Decker vice president of global EHS governance, who has years of experience hosting ReadyCT interns.

Talent Pipeline

Smith said as businesses prioritize developing a talent pipeline, it is imperative they consider how to engage with high schools. High school summer internship programs through ReadyCT typically run from four to six or four to eight weeks, depending on a company’s availability. They range from 80 to 120 hours. There are various arrangements to help with costs, depending on the pathway. “As an organization, we have seen an increasing demand on the part of both school systems and employers to create more alignment and partnership between those communities so we ensure our students and our graduates are adequately ready for the workplace,” said ReadyCT executive director Shannon Marimón.
