Connecticut Wealth Management, UConn Launch Financial Advisor Pipeline

Farmington-based Connecticut Wealth Management has partnered with the University of Connecticut School of Business to launch the school’s first-ever wealth management cohort.
Through a $75,000 contribution, the investment advisory will support an experiential learning program designed to help develop the state’s next generation of financial advisors.
“This partnership is about building a pathway that hasn’t existed before,” CTWM president and CEO Kevin Leahy said in a statement.
“Connecticut students deserve access to high-quality preparation in this growing field, and we believe this program will help keep their talent and energy in this state.”
CTWM’s three-year commitment will support technology training and hands-on experiences, ensuring students gain the practical skills needed to excel in the profession.
The new cohort will also foster connections with industry mentors, internships, and real-world career opportunities.
Mentorship
Open to undergraduate students of all majors and class levels, the CTWM cohort provides immersive exposure to financial planning, pairing academic knowledge with hands-on applications.
It also aims to build momentum toward establishing a formal wealth management minor at UConn, a track currently unavailable.
“This is a great initiative, in line with the current trends on how to prepare students for the workplace.”
UConn’s Nora Madjar
Nora Madjar, the School of Business’ associate dean for undergraduate programs, said UConn’s expertise in finance education pairs well with a focus on wealth management.
“This is a great initiative, in line with the current trends on how to prepare students for the workplace,” Madjar said.
“Providing the mentorship and resources to network with certified financial planners is exactly what our students need to gain insights and solid preparation for their future careers.”
Immediate Interest
According to school officials, more than 110 students have already expressed interest in the program, which officially launched Oct. 2.
One of them is UConn senior Emma Fekete, who attended the kick-off event at the School of Business lounge in Storrs.
More than 110 students have already expressed interest in the program.
A finance major, Fekete said she was extremely interested in becoming a financial adviser but wasn’t sure how to enter the field.
After listening to the speakers, Fekete is already thinking about preparing for the requisite certified financial planner certificate.
“I’ve got my eye on that now,’’ she said.
