U.S. Small Business Administration Connecticut District director Catherine Marx is leaving the agency after almost six years of service overseeing small business programs and partnerships.

As director, Marx was responsible for leading the Connecticut SBA team in the effective delivery and management of SBA’s financial and business development programs throughout the state.

During her tenure, Marx led the agency’s efforts to expand access to capital, strengthen business advising services, increase government contracting opportunities, and support thousands of Connecticut entrepreneurs and small businesses.

She also played a key role in helping businesses navigate federal relief programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marx managed SBA oversight of key resource partners, including the Connecticut Small Business Development Center, the Women’s Business Development Council, the Women’s Business Center, and the state’s SCORE chapters.

Small Business Champion

CBIA has worked closely with Marx and the Connecticut District Office.

For the past four years, CBIA and the SBA collaborated on the annual National Small Business Week Awards & Expo, a signature event celebrating Connecticut entrepreneurs.

“Catherine is a true champion for small business,” CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima said.
