The state’s largest business organization issued the following response to today’s release of the September 2022 employment report.

“September’s job numbers continue a positive trend for the state’s economy, with growth in a number of key sectors,” CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima said.

“With 4,400 new positions added in September, we’ve now seen growth every month this year. We must continue to build on this momentum.

“The jobs are there—114,000 open positions as of August. What employers need are the workers to fill those jobs and it’s concerning to see another 1,800 people leave the labor force last month.

“Our labor force has declined by 47,100 people since February 2020, or 43% of the region’s losses—we have just two-thirds of the available labor pool needed to fill those open jobs.

“At the same time, we’re seeing much greater stability in workplaces across the state, with Connecticut’s voluntary quits rate and separation rate among the lowest in the country.

“That’s why CBIA urges candidates for elected office to support our Transform Connecticut policy recommendations, a package of solutions designed to address the labor shortage.

“We must lower Connecticut’s costs of living and running a business, implement more pathways to rewarding careers, and open doors to opportunity for all communities and residents.”

CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with thousands of member companies, small and large, representing a diverse range of industries from every part of the state. For more information, please contact Scott Beaulieu (860.244.1929).
