State’s Economy Adds More Jobs

Connecticut’s economy added a net 4,900 jobs in February for a total of 10,300 jobs year-to-date, according to the Department of Labor.
Our unemployment rate dropped for the seventh consecutive month to 7.8%, the lowest since April 2009. Connecticut’s margin below the national rate of 8.3% continues to increase.
The DOL, however, also revised January’s numbers from 7,100 to 5,400 jobs added.
Overall, Connecticut has now recovered 39,100, or exactly a third of the 117,500 total nonfarm jobs lost in the recent recession.
Employment sectors increasing the most included trade, transportation and utilities (2,200 jobs added) and education and health services (2,200 jobs added). Also gaining were retail, wholesale trade, construction, professional and business services, and manufacturing.
Declining were government, leisure and hospitality, information, and financial services.
