State, SCSU Launch STEM Mentor Database
There is a new way for women in STEM to connect in Connecticut.
Leaders with the Connecticut Office of Manufacturing and Southern Connecticut State University announced the creation of the Million Women Mentors database.
Led by Dr. Colleen Bielitz, in collaboration with Million Women Mentors Connecticut Chapter, the online platform offers mentorship for women in manufacturing and other STEM fields across the state.
“The Million Women Mentors database offers unparalleled access to mentorship opportunities and support networks, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among women at all levels of industry,” Bielitz said.
Through the database’s mentor maps, users can have access to a comprehensive database of accomplished women leaders.
Mentees also have access to a number of tools to help them grow their connections and find mentors who are aligned with their interests and career aspirations.

The launch of the database is one of two initiatives to come from Connecticut’s ElevateHER Advisory Council.
Convened by business consultancy firm Slalom, the advisory council meets quarterly to discuss support opportunities and make programming recommendations to the Office of Manufacturing.
“This initiative is bringing together great minds with innovative ideas on the future of women in the manufacturing industry,” Slalom senior director and ElevateHER chair Maura Parente Rucker said.
The council also recommended the Office of Manufacturing support a podcast to support women in manufacturing.
The first episode of the Manufacturing ShakeUp Podcast aired in late June.
“Together, these initiatives reflect the Office of Manufacturing’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive manufacturing workforce,” said chief manufacturing officer Paul Lavoie.
“By providing outstanding mentorship and sharing inspirational stories, we are empowering women and helping them achieve their full potential in a sector critical to Connecticut’s economy.”
