Hourly Rate for Interns Declines in Real Dollars

Overall, the average hourly wage rate for interns has dropped 4.2% from 2010 in terms of real dollars, according to new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
NACE’s 2016 Internship & Co-op Survey found that, in nominal dollars, the average hourly wage rate for bachelor’s degree-level interns has climbed to $17.69, up from $17.20 last year.
However, when the average wage rate is adjusted for inflation using 2010 as the benchmark year, bachelor’s-level interns in 2016 actually earned $16.28, down from an average of $17 interns earned in 2010.
