Republican Ben McGorty won a special election this week in the 122nd State House District (Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull) to complete the term of State Rep. Larry Miller, who died in May.
McGorty defeated Democrat Arlene Liscinsky and will represent the district for the rest of 2014.
However, McGorty now faces a primary on Aug. 12 to decide who will be the Republican candidate for the next two-year term starting in January.
Challenging McGorty in the primary is Mike Vickerelli.
District voters ultimately will settle the issue on Election Day, November 4.
