Changes are coming to Connecticut’s budget office next month.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced Jeffrey Beckham will step down as secretary of the Office of Policy and Management Dec. 5.

Lamont is nominating Joshua Wojcik to serve as Beckham’s successor.

Fiscal Stability

Beckham worked alongside Lamont since 2022. During that time, the state passed its largest income tax cut in its history.

He has also been a key player in defending Connecticut’s fiscal guardrails that have helped pay down years of deficits.

“Over the last several years, Jeff has been a trusted advisor, not just for me but for all of our state agency heads, and his work has helped ensure that our state offices are operating in a coordinated manner and that taxpayer funding is being used wisely and efficiently,” Lamont said.

“During Jeff’s tenure at OPM, Connecticut made a dramatic turnaround with its fiscal management, ushering in a new era of fiscal stability that has resulted in numerous financial agencies delivering credit rating upgrades the state has not seen in decades.”

CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima praised Beckham for often welcoming the business community to the table.

“We greatly enjoyed working with Beckham on fiscal budgeting policies,” DiPentima said.

“His disciplined approach and commitment to smart fiscal management has been instrumental in stabilizing the budget and supporting Connecticut’s economy.”

Next Steps

Lamont said he plans to appoint Beckham to serve as Superior Court judge in the coming weeks.

As for Wojcik, he is no stranger to state finance and policy.

Wojcik has been working as the director of health care policy and benefits at the Office of the State Comptroller since 2022, responsible for overseeing the state employee health plan as well as launching new initiatives and operations.

Before that, he spent a decade as assistant comptroller and policy director.

“Moving forward, the challenges may change, but the priorities remain the same—meeting the needs of Connecticut residents with budgets built for long-term sustainability.”

Joshua Wojcik

Comptroller Sean Scanlon called Wojcik “one of the smartest public policy minds I’ve ever met.”

CBIA has engaged with Wojcik in the past in an effort to reduce the cost of healthcare for businesses and their employees.

“We look forward to continue working with Wojcik to leverage Connecticut’s strengths to drive long-term growth,” DiPentima said.

Wojcik will serve as interim OPM secretary following Beckham’s departure.

Lamont will formally submit his nomination to the General Assembly in February.
