ReadyCT Hosts Jan. 19 Employer Internship Session
As workforce development dominates the conversation across Connecticut, CBIA affiliate ReadyCT is working to connect students with opportunities to experience their potential futures in various industry workplace settings.
ReadyCT hosts a virtual internship kickoff event Jan. 19 to discuss ways employers can host high school students as interns for the 2022 summer.
According to ReadyCT executive director Shannon Marimón, the event brings to life the many ways interns add value.
“The students work throughout the school year to develop habits of mind and career skills, so they’re ready to take on high-quality projects from day one,” Marimón said.
“The interns can take on that necessary but back-burnered project that so many businesses have, given many competing priorities.
“And, as the interns tackle those projects, part of the business strategy can include assigning their emerging leaders to provide direction and mentorship.
“There are myriad benefits, which may be why the program continues to attract an increasing number of host employers year over year.”
More than 50 Hartford area employers, including Travelers, RSL Fibers, and Pratt & Whitney said high school interns from the ReadyCT internship program have been valuable to their operations.
“It was a great experience,” said Kimberly Wills, CEO and laboratory director of New England Bioassay.
“It just brings a different energy,” said Travelers assistant vice president Hansford Johnson.
“When you are talking about [interns] who are coming over for an extended period of time, and you are giving them the flexibility to be themselves, you can really take in how they do work effectively and then how you can incorporate that into the work that we have.”
Both students who have served as interns and employers who have hosted interns will speak at the Jan. 19 event and answer questions.
The event begins at 8 am. Interested employers can register online.
