2025 marks a milestone year for Shelton-based manufacturer Modern Plastics.

The plastics distribution and custom fabrication/machining company is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

“I am forever grateful to our dedicated employees, past and present, who have built this business with their hard work, loyalty, and commitment to excellence,” said Modern Plastics president Bing Carbone.

The company was created in 1945 by Carbone’s grandfather, Joseph Carbone.

After returning from service in the U.S. Navy, Carbone founded Modern Glass in Bridgeport.

Adapting and Pivoting

“Back then, plastics weren’t mainstream—glass was king,” Carbone said about his grandfather’s business.

Carbone said that as plastics became a bigger part of industry, his grandfather adapted and renamed the company Modern Plastics & Glass.

In the 1980s, the company pivoted again, focusing exclusively on fabricating and machining high-performance plastics.

“I am forever grateful to our dedicated employees.”

To celebrate the milestone, Modern Plastics unveiled a new 80th anniversary logo.

Carbone said the logo is “a symbol of our journey, resilience, and vision for the future.”
