Thomaston Savings Bank Awards $190K in Grants

More than 80 nonprofit and government agencies in Litchfield County are receiving grants from Thomaston Savings Bank. 

The $190,497 in funding is part of the Phase II of the bank’s Foundation Grant Cycle.

The goal is to help agencies that are addressing the needs of the local community. 

Applications for this round of funding were considered for organizations in Bethlehem, Harwinton, Plymouth, Terryville, Thomaston, Torrington, Watertown, and Oakville. 

Plymouth Community Food Pantry received one of the grants, which director Larry Chiucarello said “will be used to further our mission and help our neighbors throughout the community.”

“Our mission is to reduce food insecurity by providing healthy and nutritious food, wellness programs, and referrals to those in need,” he said.

Statewide Support

Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation’s annual grant cycle has three phases, each focusing on a different region of the state.

During Phase I, 50 grants totaling nearly $150,000 were awarded to organizations in Hartford County. 

Applications for Phase III in New Haven County open Oct. 1.

Phase III will focus on New Haven County, with a focus on arts and culture, community development, education and youth services, health & human services, and public safety.  

Applications will be accepted starting Oct. 1. for organizations in Middlebury, Waterbury, and Wolcott. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.

Since it was founded in 1997, the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation has awarded over $8.2 million in grant funding.
