The state’s largest business organization today released its annual legislative scorecards, reflecting Connecticut lawmakers’ votes on key bills from the 2022 General Assembly session.

Votes were scored for 10 bills, chosen for their potential impact—positive or negative—on job growth and the state’s post-pandemic recovery.

CBIA’s Rebuilding Connecticut: Next Steps policy initiatives—supported by a bipartisan group of legislators—are featured in many of those bills.

“Connecticut employers continue to navigate the effects of the pandemic, inflation, and the labor shortage,” CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima said.

“Our voting records reflect lawmakers’ priorities, measuring their support for small businesses and for critically needed workforce development and affordability solutions.

“There was broad bipartisan support for a number of positive measures such as expanding the manufacturing apprenticeship tax credit to small businesses and helping returning citizens.

“The scorecard also captures the unfortunately adversarial attitude some legislators have toward employers based on their votes on bills like the employer gag order.”

CBIA vice president of public policy Eric Gjede said the scorecard demonstrates a lawmaker’s level of awareness around critical issues impacting the economy and job creation.

“We are seeing a growing number of bipartisan, moderate lawmakers recognize that the high cost of living and the labor shortage are major threats to our economic recovery,” he said.

“Our 2022 voting scorecards show which lawmakers were willing to stand with the business community to prioritize these issues.

“We need to hear solutions from candidates on the campaign trail this summer and fall that will further address those challenges.”

CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with thousands of member companies, small and large, representing a diverse range of industries from every part of the state. For more information, please contact Joe Budd (860.244.1951).
