CBIA Response to July 2025 Employment Report

The state’s largest business organization issued the following response to today’s release of the July 2025 employment report.
“July’s modest 700 job increase reflects Connecticut’s long-term job growth challenges,” said CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima.
“The pace of job growth continues to fall short of demand—we have 77,000 job openings and employers continue to report that the labor shortage is their biggest challenge.
“It’s clear that we’re not seeing the population growth needed to address overall demand in Connecticut, with the labor force again declining in July.
“While job openings are 9% above pre-pandemic levels, the labor force has only grown 1.2%, trailing most of the region and the country.
“Employers continue to do their part, with average private sector weekly earnings increasing 4% in the last 12 months, ahead of the national rate and outpacing inflation.
“It’s imperative that policymakers recognize the challenges employers face and support policy solutions that make Connecticut more affordable for residents and businesses.
“As policymakers consider their priorities for the next legislative session—they must focus on supporting the core of Connecticut’s economy and lay the groundwork for long-term growth.”
