It may be the middle of winter, but water slides and adventure parks are top of mind in Mashantucket.

Construction is well underway on the new Great Wolf Lodge resort at Foxwoods that will bring hundreds of jobs and hundreds of thousands of tourists to the state.

“It’s really the talk of the town,” said Foxwoods president and CEO Jason Guyot.

“I can’t go anywhere without people coming up to me, asking me, ‘When is Great Wolf going to open? How can I get tickets?’”

Sneak Peak

“We’re still on track to open on May 23 and cannot wait to start welcoming families to the resort,” said Great Wolf Lodge Mashantuck general manager Henry Tessman.

The teams from Great Wolf Lodge, Foxwoods Resort Casino, and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation hosted a sneak-peak, hard hat tour of the construction Jan. 14.

“Great Wolf Lodge is such a special addition to Foxwoods family friendly offerings,” said Mashantucket Pequot Tribal chair Rodney Butler.

Mashantucket Pequot chair Rodney Butler said the resort is currently the largest private construction project in the state.

“We’re proud of what it will bring to the community, Connecticut, and Northeast.”

Butler noted that the resort is currently the largest private construction project in the state.

Crews broke ground on the project last year, and have put in more than 700,000 hours to build the facility.

Family Resort

When the resort opens, it will feature 549 guest rooms, including family suites and separate bunk bed areas for kids.

One of the main features of the resort is its 92,000 square foot indoor water park with 13 slides, a wave pool, indoor and outdoor pools, and a lazy river.

Accompanying the water park is a 60,000 square foot adventure park featuring a family-friendly ropes course, zip lines, miniature golf, bowling, an arcade, and an interactive adventure game.

The resort will feature a mix of dining options including a sit-down restaurant, food vendors, and a Dunkin’.

There will also be several retail options, including a Build-A-Bear.

The goal is for the resort to be a unique destination for families across the region, tapping into the Hartford, Providence, Boston, and New York markets.

“The water park, the retail attractions, the food and beverage outlets, they’re all just steps from your guest room,” said Great Wolf Lodge regional vice president Brad Weissman.

Economic Boost

The resort expects to attract more than 500,000 visitors each year, and will offer day passes to local visitors.

“We purposely build our resorts to provide families with a close, convenient and carefree escape,” said Weissman.

“We’re so excited and confident that this resort will be an instant hit for families throughout the Northeast.”

“It’s going to be exciting to see the measure of success for such a massive development.”

The resort will also be a boost for the local economy.

Great Wolf Lodge said it will hire more than 500 full- and part-time jobs.

“It’s going to be exciting to see the measure of success for such a massive development here in Mashantucket,” said Guyot.

Future Vision

Guyot and Butler noted the importance of partners like Great Wolf Lodge for the future of Foxwoods and Mashantucket.

“It’s completing a key piece of our vision,” said Butler. “It positions Foxwoods as a leader in family entertainment and tourism, while ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability for our community.”

“We’re going to continue to develop and innovate.”

Butler noted Great Wolf Lodge will join Foxwoods’ gaming, hotels, restaurant entertainment, shopping, golf, and spas.

“We’re going to continue to develop and innovate with our goal of being the greatest integrated resort destination in the Northeast,” added Guyot.

When it opens, Great Wolf Lodge Mashantucket will be the company’s 23rd resort in the U.S. and Canada.
