General Digital Celebrates 50 Years

An East Hartford manufacturer is celebrating 50 years in business serving a wide range of industries. 

Founded in 1973 by RPI graduate professors Russ Reiss and Len Lazar, the company provides manufacturing and engineering services for defense, aerospace, medical devices, and other intensive applications. 

General Digital released the world’s first ruggedized touch screen terminal in 1977 as part of an effort to help a potato chip manufacturer build a sealed system to protect vulnerable shop floor electronics.

“We’re extremely proud to have had the opportunity to support such a diverse group of customers over the past 50 years,” GDC president Bryan Gudrian said. 

“Being in business as long as we have truly is a testament to the quality of the products and services we offer.”

Business Progress

General Digital has continued to develop tools and procedures to streamline testing and reporting to reduce time and costs for manufacturers and regulators. 

The company currently operates three business units consisting of display systems, software engineering services, and embedded systems engineering.

“From defense and commercial aviation to medical devices and energy, even some of the most iconic American theme parks and landmarks, it’s an honor to be able to provide solutions that drive industry forward,” Gudrian said. 

As the company looks to continue its legacy, there are a number of projects in the works. 

The company was recently selected for a multi-million dollar effort in support of the E-2D U.S. Naval Aviation program, among other projects.
