Connecticut-based Murtha Cullina LLP and New York-based Harris Beach PLLC have relaunched as Harris Beach Murtha.

The merger, effective Jan. 1, 2025, creates a firm with more than 250 lawyers and 15 offices in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, D.C.

“Harris Beach Murtha unites the strengths of two firms, both deeply embedded in the communities we serve, and extends our capabilities and reach,” said CEO Chris Jagel.

Jagel previously served as CEO of Harris Beach.

Murtha Cullina managing partner Andy Corea will serve on the firm’s management committee.

Company officials said the combined firm will serve clients in more than 20 major areas of law across multiple industries.

Diverse Practice

Jagel and Corea said attorneys from both firms have been introducing clients to each other in areas where they hadn’t typically practiced.

“With our attorneys collaborating across more diverse practice areas, we have already begun delivering cross-disciplinary legal services that better respond to our clients’ expanding needs,” Corea said.

Murtha Cullina was established in 1936, while Harris Beach was founded in 1856.

Murtha Cullina was the exclusive member firm in Connecticut for Lex Mundi, a global network of independent firms in more than 125 countries.

The new firm will continue with that distinction.

The two firms first announced the merger in May 2024, with partners from both approving the move.
