SBA Awards Connecticut $240K Export Grants
There is additional funding coming to Connecticut for small businesses interested in expanding to new export markets.
The SBA awarded $240,000 to the Department of Economic and Community Development as part of the SBA’s State Trade Expansion Program.
The grant is intended to provide small businesses with the tools they need to succeed in exporting activities.
“For small businesses, exporting is not just a growth strategy, it’s a chance to reach new customers and grow their brand on the international stage,” SBA Connecticut district director Catherine Marx said.
“Connecticut’s small businesses can use SBA’s state trade expansion program to expand their business into the global market and diversify their revenue streams.”
Eligibility
STEP funding is available to businesses who manufacture, assemble and/or distribute a product or provide an exportable service.
Eligible activities include trade shows, trade missions, international marketing design, website translation, U.S. Department of Commerce services, and export training.
STEP eligible businesses can apply to receive assistance for 75% of eligible expenses up to a maximum of $6,500 per activity with a maximum $10,000 per company per year.
The grants are part of $20 million in funds distributed to trade agencies in states across the country.
SBA’s award to Connecticut DECD this year represents a $40,000 increase over last year’s award.
While final applications are due by Sept. 25, 2025, businesses are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as funding runs out fast.
SBA Connecticut’s district office is hosting an informational session online for businesses Oct. 17 at 11 am.
