Connecticut employers face a series of milestones regarding their responsibilities with the implementation of the state’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave program.
November 23, 2020
- Employer registration begins
- Self employed individuals and sole proprietors may register (must remain in the plan for at least three years)
January 1, 2021
- Employers begin withholding employee paid FMLA contributions (0.5% of each paycheck)
- Self employed individuals and sole proprietors can begin making contributions to paid FMLA trust fund (0.5% of wages)
March 31, 2021
- First quarterly payment due to Connecticut Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Authority—payments may also be submitted during the quarter
June 30, 2021
- End of second quarter, quarterly payment due
September 30, 2021
- End of third quarter, quarterly payment due
December 31, 2021
- End of fourth quarter, quarterly payment due
Fall/Winter 2021
- Employees can begin submitting applications for paid FMLA benefits
January 1, 2022
- Benefit payments begin for approved paid FMLA applicants
