Paid FMLA: Key Dates for Employers

Connecticut employers face a series of milestones regarding their responsibilities with the implementation of the state’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave program.

November 23, 2020

January 1, 2021

  • Employers begin withholding employee paid FMLA contributions (0.5% of each paycheck)
  • Self employed individuals and sole proprietors can begin making contributions to paid FMLA trust fund (0.5% of wages)

March 31, 2021

  • First quarterly payment due to Connecticut Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Authority—payments may also be submitted during the quarter

June 30, 2021

  • End of second quarter, quarterly payment due

September 30, 2021

  • End of third quarter, quarterly payment due

December 31, 2021

  • End of fourth quarter, quarterly payment due

Fall/Winter 2021

  • Employees can begin submitting applications for paid FMLA benefits

January 1, 2022

  • Benefit payments begin for approved paid FMLA applicants
