CDC Lifts COVID-19 International Travel Test Requirement

International travelers no longer need to show a negative coronavirus test within one day of boarding a flight back to the U.S. 

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lifted the requirement June 12, 2022.

Officials noted they will continue to assess if the situation changes. 

The change impacts travelers leaving a foreign country for the U.S. 

The CDC put the requirement in place in January 2021 to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. 

In the Federal Register update, CDC director Rochelle Walensky said travelers have more access to tools, such as vaccines, therapies, and other prevention measures that allow them to make choices about the use of testing before getting on a flight. 

The CDC continues to update its risk assessment for travel online.

Domestic travel has picked up significantly in the past several months, while international travel has remained below pre-pandemic levels. 

Some countries have also lifted their testing requirements for fully vaccinated travelers.
