The state’s largest business organization today called for greater compliance with COVID-19 guidelines to protect the state’s jobs recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Responding to today’s release of the October employment report, CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima said employers have now recovered two-thirds of the 291,300 jobs lost in March and April.

“Our recovery rate is now 66%, which is the best of the New England states and well above the national average of 54%,” DiPentima said.

“That’s a testament to how the state has navigated the pandemic. However, this recovery is a fragile one and we cannot afford to drop our guard.”

“Our recovery is dependent on everyone in this state taking those guidelines seriously and looking out for the health and well being of all.”

DiPentima added that employment is down 108,400 jobs since the beginning of the year, reinforcing the need for additional federal relief funds.

He said employers also are “extremely concerned” about the winter months, as coronavirus cases surge across the state and the country.

“We cannot stress enough how important it is for everyone in the state to follow pandemic guidelines,” he said. “That includes wearing a mask in public, following social distance rules, and washing your hands frequently.

“Our recovery has been and will continue to be dependent on everyone in this state taking those guidelines seriously and looking out for the health and well being of all.”
