CBIA Response to January 2024 Employment Report
The state’s largest business organization issued the following response to today’s release of the January 2024 employment report.
“With a robust 7,400 jobs gained in January, the year is off to a promising start,” said CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima.
“Assuming there are minimal revisions, the additions bring Connecticut’s COVID jobs recovery to 102%.
“Along with the job growth, the state’s labor force—those working and those actively looking for work—also grew by 2,400 in January.
“While still down 28,700 since Feb. 2020, this is another sign that the state’s economy is trending in the right direction.
“It’s imperative that we seize this opportunity and build on our momentum.
“There are 94,000 job openings in the state—we have approximately 1.1 job openings for every unemployed person.
“As we work through the legislative session, policymakers must remain focused on solutions to solve the labor shortage and continue to address the high costs of living and running a business.
“Providing more affordable healthcare and childcare options, tackling the housing crisis, and improving opportunities for women, immigrants, returning citizens, veterans, and those from underserved and often forgotten communities are critical to making Connecticut a top state to live and work.”
CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with thousands of member companies, small and large, representing a diverse range of industries from every part of the state. For more information, please contact Scott Beaulieu (860.244.1929).
