CBIA Response to October 2024 Employment Report
The state’s largest business organization issued the following response to today’s release of the October 2024 employment report.
“October’s decline of 300 jobs represents a discouraging fourth consecutive month of job losses,” said CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima.
“While we did see an increase of 900 private sector jobs, those gains were offset by losses in government employment and a revision of September’s report to a loss of 1,300 jobs.
“The decline in recent months shines a spotlight on Connecticut’s labor force challenges.
“The state’s low unemployment, combined with a lack of job gains, are a sign that our employers are having a difficult time finding employees.
“There are still more job openings—77,000—than people unemployed—57,700—in Connecticut.
“It’s clear that while there is strong demand for Connecticut products and services, there’s simply not enough people to meet that demand.
“It is critical that newly elected policymakers remain focused on growing Connecticut’s population, and expanding the workforce if we will truly meet the demands of our economy.
“A bipartisan coalition of 70 elected officials supported CBIA’s Reimagine Connecticut policy pledge, with solutions specifically designed to expand our workforce, grow our economy, and improve our quality of life.
“We’re committed to working with the entire legislature to enact policies that will make Connecticut a more affordable place to live and work, and increase opportunities for meaningful, rewarding careers.”
CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with thousands of member companies, small and large, representing a diverse range of industries from every part of the state. For more information, please contact Scott Beaulieu (860.244.1929).
