EEOC Opens Data Collection Site; July 19 Deadline

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has opened the EEO-1 Component 1 data collection site.

Employers will have until July 19, 2021 to submit two years of EEO-1 Component 1 data—for 2019 and 2020, the agency said.

The EEOC delayed the collection last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The agency said it is extending the data collection period this year from 10 weeks to 12 weeks to provide employers more time to file.

The EEOC said the extension recognizes that the pandemic continues to impact workplaces nationwide and that employers must compile two years worth of data.

“Employers should begin preparing to submit data in anticipation of the July 19 filing deadline,” the agency said.

Mandatory

The EEO-1 Component 1 report is a mandatory annual data collection that requires all private sector employers with 100 or more employees, and federal contractors with 50 or more employees meeting certain criteria, to submit demographic workforce data, including by race/ethnicity, sex, and job categories.

The filings are required by the Civil Right Act.

Eligible employers who were not mailed a 2019 and 2020 EEO-1 Component 1 notification letter should contact the EEOC’s Filer Support Team at FilerSupport@eeocdata.org for help.

Employers who have received the notification letter may create user accounts using the company ID and passcode that are provided in the notification letter.

Once an employer creates a user account, there are two ways to file the 2019 and 2020 data:
